Mary Sliwa

Vice President/Client Service

With more than 25 years of experience as an executive in media, fundraising, philanthropy, and management, Mary draws on her diverse background with a passionate interest in helping clients pursue their goals. Her focus is on encouraging and managing client relationships with integrity, purpose, competency, and accessibility; she guides clients tasked with managing time, goals, and opinions. Mary’s vast experience in fundraising and coalition building has provided her with deep knowledge of the complex issues surrounding philanthropy and endowment that affect high net worth clients.

Mary joined Stifel in December 2015 through its acquisition of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Americas. Prior to joining Barclays in 2013, she worked at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as part of the Moldaver Group.

Mary coordinates The Moldaver Paterson & Lee Group’s strategic relationships through her vast personal and business networks of executives, philanthropists, public servants, and media figures. As the female voice in the Group, Mary is cognizant of the unique issues facing female clients and couples. She is mindful of the realities of home life, relationships, and transitions, and can guide clients who desire to leave behind a legacy.

Before entering the investment industry, Mary spent more than 13 years as the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of The Guardian Angels, a volunteer-based organization made up of dedicated individuals who donate their time and energy to help protect communities around the world. Mary led the Angels’ evolution from well-known New York City grassroots street patrols to a respected community safety organization on a global stage. Through her efforts, The Guardian Angels won recognition from major political and governmental agencies, receiving the “Keys to the City” from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Liberty Medal Award, and, most impressively, the President’s Service Award, presented in 1998 by President Clinton for the organization’s CyberAngels Internet safety program.

Earlier in her career, Mary distinguished herself as a leading executive in the corporate media arena. She managed advertising sales, client relations, and marketing programs for Capital Cities/WABC Radio. She also held executive positions at CNN/Headline News and radio outlets WPAT, WPLJ, and WRKS, and lectured at New York University.

Mary studied liberal arts at Monmouth University before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education of Multiply-Handicapped Children from William Paterson University. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Media Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a Graduate Certificate in Media and Public Relations from the Sterling Institute, and a Psi Chi Certificate of Recognition in Psychology from Fordham University.
